That classification governs foundation design, finished floor elevation, and structural engineering before any architectural decision gets made. Homes must be elevated above base flood elevation using pilings or pier systems engineered for coastal soil conditions, and that elevation directly affects your insurance eligibility and how the structure performs during a storm surge.
Beyond elevation, every Galveston home must meet Texas Department of Insurance windstorm standards and pass WPI-8 inspection. That certification governs roofing assemblies, wall connections, and structural framing for hurricane-force winds. resistance.
